I love the white background of the set more than I realized. It really makes the colors of the set show up easily, even in poor lighting. With some other sets, I struggle to see if there is not enough contrast. This is not something I thought about when purchasing The La Jolla Tiles, but it is a really great feature.

The La Jolla Tiles: A Choice with Meaning
We get it! Buying a mahjong set that's worthy of your investment and a place at your mahjong table can be tricky. There are many pretty sets, but chances are, you want something that's both beautiful and meaningful. When we shopped for a set to buy, we hoped to find one that represented where we live and the memories made at the beach and along the California coast. We didn't find it, so we decided to create it.
Our Story
We're Catherine & Ellie, a mother-daughter team from La Jolla, California, and we created The La Jolla Tiles for those who love La Jolla, San Diego, and the California coast. The La Jolla Tiles are more than just a gorgeous premium mahjong set – they are artfully and intentionally designed to pay tribute to the area's rich marine life, vibrant native wildflowers, and favorite outdoor activities like surfing and hang gliding. Each tile was thoughtfully designed to evoke a connection to the coast and remind you of memories made here.
Your California Connection
Customers have written to tell us that our tiles remind them of annual family beach vacations, summers visiting grandparents, and walks along the shore. Those who live here say our tiles capture the feeling of La Jolla itself: chic but unpretentious, sophisticated yet grounded in beauty and nature.

Locally Inspired & Designed
The La Jolla Tiles were designed by Ellie, an artist and graphic designer, who grew up at the beach. They feature clean lines and vibrant coastal blues, greens and Pacific coral pink. The tiles have been focus-tested numerous times to ensure readability and ease of play. They have a pleasing, solid hand-feel.
